For anyone wanting context: The former Afghanistan Vice President Amrullah Saleh has declared himself the caretaker President under Afghanistan’s constitution. He and the son of a legendary general (Ahmad Massoud) have rallied resistance (under the banner of the Northern Alliance) out of the region of Panjshir, and are now are appearing to be taking back some areas surrounding it. Panjshir is the same area that resisted the Taliban in the past, and historically managed to avoid being conquered.
