PRESS RELEASE

Final level after 25 years: retro-platformer Ultracore to appear at the end of May 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita!

A 25-year-old platformer from DICE/PSYGNOSIS will appear under the new name Ultracore for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita at the end of May 2019. Pre-orders can be made via the official website of Strictly Limited Games beginning at the end of April 2019.

Stuttgart, Germany; March 12, 2019 – Some 25 years after completion, the action platformer HardCore, originally developed by Digital Illusions, will be released under the name Ultracore by the Stuttgart based publisher Strictly Limited Games at the end of May 2019. Digital versions of the MetroidVania platformer for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita will be available in the PlayStation Network – a physical PlayStation 4 version and an exclusive special edition, the contents of which have not yet been announced, can be preordered at the end of April 2019 via [https://projecthardcore.strictlylimitedgames.com].

With Ultracore, Strictly Limited Games has scored a sensational find. The title has been considered lost for over 20 years when development under the name HardCore for Sega Mega Drive, Sega Mega CD and Commodore Amiga was canceled shortly before completion. For about two years some of the most talented minds and experts in the video game industry have worked with the team from Strictly Limited Games on the implementation of this retro treasure for the current generation of consoles. Among others involved in the development are the former long-time DICE employee Mikael Kalms and members of the original development team Fredrik Liljegren and Joakim Wejdemar. They were supported by Matt Phillips, specialist for 68000 programming and Mega Drive at Big Evil Corporation; Steve Snake, expert for emulation and retro games; porting expert Mathew Gambrell; and game/level designer Gerhard Weihrauch.

As a 2D sidescrolling platformer, Ultracore will appeal especially to fans of classic retro action games and offers extensive levels and lots of bosses and mini-bosses. In addition to publication for all retro fans on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, Ultracore will also come preinstalled on the retro console Mega SG from Analogue. Information on the planned Mega Drive cartridge and other platforms will be announced in the coming weeks.
